What We Do

Drainage Installation
, Repair & Solutions

Full-scope drainage services work in Connecticut. Real craftsmanship, honest pricing, and results that hold up.

01 — Drainage Solutions

What We Install

Water is the number one enemy of any house, yard, or masonry project. Wet basements, standing water in the yard, water against the foundation, ice on walkways in winter. All trace back to drainage problems. We solve drainage problems in CT. French drains to move water away from foundations and wet spots. Surface drains and catch basins to collect water from low areas. Grading corrections to redirect water flow. Downspout extensions to keep roof water from dumping next to the house. We solve the cause of standing water, not just the symptom.

02 — Systems That Work

End-to-End

Most folks call us because they have one of three problems. Water in the basement after every heavy rain. Standing water in the yard that never dries out. Water sitting against the foundation or in window wells. Each problem has a different cause and a different fix. Some are simple grading corrections. Some need French drains. Some need a combination of solutions. We come out, look at the property, ask about when the problem shows up, and figure out where the water is coming from before we propose a fix.

03 — Diagnosis First

Root Cause

Drainage problems get worse over time, not better. Water finds new paths every year. Damage compounds. Wet basements lead to mold and structural issues. Standing water kills lawns and damages landscaping. Water against the foundation can crack walls and cause settling. Catching drainage problems early is much cheaper than waiting until major damage happens. We tell every customer what we see and how urgent it is. Some drainage issues can wait. Others need to be addressed before winter. We give you straight answers either way.

Common Problems

Common Drainage Problems
in Connecticut

Most drainage problems in CT have predictable causes. The fix depends on diagnosing where the water comes from. Here is what we see most often on CT properties.

Wet Basement After Heavy Rain

Water table is high or the soil around the foundation cannot move water away fast enough. Surface water is running toward the house instead of away. Downspouts dumping at the foundation. We install perimeter French drains around the foundation, extend downspouts away from the house, and regrade soil to slope away from the foundation.

Standing Water in the Yard

Low spot where water collects with nowhere to go. Heavy clay soil that does not drain. Compacted soil from construction or vehicle traffic. We install French drains to move water from the low spot to a place where it can discharge. Sometimes we regrade the area to remove the low spot entirely. Depends on the property layout.

Water Against the Foundation

Roof water from missing or short downspouts. Surface water flowing toward the house because of bad grading. Window wells filling with water. We address the source of the water first, then add drainage where needed. Extending downspouts and regrading is often the first step. French drains and window well drains are added if needed.

Our Process

How We Solve
Your Drainage Problem

Five steps from first call to dry yard or basement. Diagnosis comes first. The fix depends on what we find.

1

Site Visit & Consultation

We come out to the property, look at the site, take measurements, and listen to what you want. Layout, materials, budget, timeline. No pressure. This is where we figure out if the project makes sense.

2

Written Estimate

Within a few business days you get a detailed written estimate with line items for materials, labor, permits, and disposal. No vague lump-sum numbers. You see exactly what you are paying for before signing anything.

3

Excavation & Pipe Layout

Trenching to depth and slope. Perforated pipe placed on gravel bed. Fabric wrap installed to keep silt out. Outlet or dry well connected. Backfill in layers, compacted as we go.

4

Grading & Restoration

Surface graded to direct water toward the drainage system. Sod, seed, or hardscape restored where trenches were dug. Downspout extensions or catch basins tied in as the design requires.

5

Walkthrough & Handoff

Final walkthrough with you on site. We go over the work, care instructions, and any maintenance you should know about. Job site gets cleaned. You get finished work backed by our workmanship.

Materials That Matter

Drainage
System Options

Different problems need different solutions. We use the right system for what the property actually needs. Here is what we install most often in CT.

Perforated PVC Pipe

4-inch perforated pipe for French drains. Wrapped in fabric sock to keep silt out. Sized to the drainage area. Standard on every French drain we install.

Filter Fabric

Non-woven geotextile fabric wrapping the drain pipe and gravel. Lets water in but keeps silt and roots out. Without it, drains clog within a few years.

Clean Gravel

3/4-inch clean crushed stone around the drain pipe. Creates the channel that lets water reach the pipe. Wrong stone size clogs faster.

Catch Basins & Grates

Precast basins with cast iron grates for surface water collection. Sized to the drainage area. Tied into the underground pipe network.

Downspout Extensions

Solid PVC or corrugated pipe carrying roof water away from the foundation. Buried below grade or tied into the drainage system. Prevents foundation water problems.

Dry Wells & Popups

Underground dry wells for water infiltration where surface discharge is not possible. Popup emitters for surface discharge in low-visibility areas.

Watch For These

What Makes Drainage Fail
in Connecticut

Most drainage installs that fail were not done wrong technically. They were designed wrong from the start. Here is what to watch for before you hire any drainage contractor.

1

No Outfall Plan

Water moves into the drain pipe. Then where does it go? Without a proper outfall, water either backs up in the pipe or daylights at a low spot that creates a new problem. We plan the outfall first. Where the water ends up matters as much as collecting it in the first place.

2

Pipe Too Small

Cheap installs use 3-inch perforated pipe everywhere. Heavy rain overwhelms the pipe and water backs up. Standard CT drainage installs need 4-inch pipe at minimum, sometimes 6-inch for high-volume areas. We size pipes for the actual water volume.

3

No Filter Sock or Fabric

Drain pipe without a filter sock or wrap clogs with soil and roots within a few years. Once clogged, the drain stops working and you cannot easily clean it. We use filter sock pipe in clay soils and wrap trenches with non-woven fabric in mixed soils. The drain has to stay open.

4

Wrong Pitch on the Drain Line

Drain pipes need at least one inch of pitch per 10 feet of run. Less pitch and water sits in the pipe. Too much pitch and the water moves faster than the soil filters can handle. We install at proper pitch with a transit, not by eyeball.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions
About Drainage

Real answers from 15 years of drainage services in Connecticut. No marketing fluff.

How much do drainage services cost in CT?

Depends on scope. A few downspout extensions and minor regrading run on the lower end. A full perimeter foundation drain with new sump pump runs much higher. We come out, walk the property, identify the actual problem, and put a written estimate together within two business days. We do not quote drainage work over the phone because every property is different.

How long does drainage work take?

Most yard drainage projects finish in 3 to 7 work days. Full perimeter foundation drains can run 1 to 2 weeks. Smaller projects like downspout extensions and surface drains can finish in 2 to 3 days. Weather matters because heavy rain delays excavation and finishing work. We give you a real timeline in the estimate.

Will drainage work damage my lawn?

Some disruption is unavoidable when we dig trenches. We minimize the disturbance by digging narrow trenches where possible and restoring the lawn after we finish. The lawn typically recovers within a season. Some heavy work in mature landscaping can require more restoration. We talk through what to expect on the site visit.

Do I need a permit for drainage work?

Most basic drainage work does not require a permit. Some CT towns require permits for work that connects to municipal storm systems or that involves significant excavation. We check with your local building department. If a permit is needed, we pull it. You do not handle the paperwork.

Can drainage fix a wet basement?

Often, yes. Most wet basements are caused by surface water reaching the foundation. Proper drainage redirects that water away from the house. Interior sump pumps can also help in some cases. We diagnose where the water is coming from first. The right solution depends on the specific cause of the wet basement.

How long does a French drain last?

Properly installed French drains last 20 to 30 years or longer. The pipe lasts essentially forever. The filter fabric and gravel surround can clog over time, especially in heavy clay soil. We use filter sock pipe and proper fabric to extend life. Most failures happen because of cheap install, not because of age.
