Almost always a flue sizing or chimney height problem. The flue is too small for the firebox opening, or the chimney is not tall enough to draft properly. Sometimes we can extend the chimney. Sometimes the fireplace needs a full rebuild to make it work right.

Permits and Prep

Stonework and Finish

Standard brick is not rated for direct flame. It cracks, spalls, and crumbles from repeated heat cycles.

Wrong Flue Size

Flue cross-section should be roughly one tenth of the firebox opening area. Too small and the fireplace smokes into the room.

01How much does a custom fireplace cost in CT?

Wide range depending on size, indoor or outdoor, and material choice. A simple outdoor stone fireplace on an existing patio runs lower. A full indoor masonry fireplace with chimney runs higher. We give you a written estimate after the site visit with everything broken out.

Outdoor fireplaces typically finish in 5 to 10 work days. Indoor fireplaces run longer, especially with permits and inspections. Full chimney work can take 2 to 3 weeks.

Indoor fireplaces always need a permit. Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits usually do not require a permit in most CT towns, though some towns regulate fire features near property lines or wooded areas.
