We build custom fireplaces in CT. Indoor stone fireplaces, outdoor wood-burning fireplaces, fire pits, and outdoor kitchens with fire features. Code compliant fireboxes, proper chimneys, real materials. 15 years on the job.
Many of the fireplaces we are called to fix were built by general contractors who do not specialize in masonry. Common problems trace back to firebox construction, flue sizing, or material choices wrong for CT weather.
Almost always a flue sizing or chimney height problem. The flue is too small for the firebox opening, or the chimney is not tall enough to draft properly. Sometimes we can extend the chimney. Sometimes the fireplace needs a full rebuild to make it work right.
We diagnose and correct the flue or chimneyStandard brick cannot handle the heat of a real fire long term. Firebox repairs need refractory firebrick and high-temperature mortar. We rebuild damaged fireboxes with the right materials.
We rebuild with refractory firebrickCommon problem in CT. Outdoor fireplaces built with the wrong stone or mortar crack within a few freeze and thaw cycles. We assess whether the failure is structural or cosmetic.
We rebuild with freeze-resistant materialsEvery fireplace job comes with the same parts. The size and material changes by project but the construction standards stay consistent.

Built Right.
Built to Code.
Pick the stone or brick that fits your house and the style you want.

Real stone cut for veneer application. Each piece different. Classic look for both indoor and outdoor.

Traditional clay brick. Many color options. Works for colonial, farmhouse, and modern industrial styles.

Lightweight, lower cost. Looks like stone but is engineered concrete. Easier to install in some applications.

Used inside the firebox where the heat is highest. Rated to handle direct flame for decades.
Not sure which style fits your home?
We bring photos and samples on the site visit.
Refractory firebrick and high-temperature mortar in every firebox. Not cheap regular brick that cracks from heat cycles within a few years.
Flue sizing and chimney height matter. We size both correctly so your fireplace pulls smoke up and out.
Outdoor fireplaces need stone and mortar rated for CT freeze and thaw. We know which materials hold up.
Fireplaces fail for different reasons depending on whether they are indoor or outdoor.
Standard brick is not rated for direct flame. It cracks, spalls, and crumbles from repeated heat cycles.
Flue cross-section should be roughly one tenth of the firebox opening area. Too small and the fireplace smokes into the room.
Chimneys need to extend at least 3 feet above the roof penetration and 2 feet above any roof line within 10 feet.
Standard masonry mortar fails in CT freeze and thaw if used outdoors. Type S mortar with freeze resistance is what holds up.
Different fireplaces serve different purposes. We build the right type for the space and how you want to use it.
Full masonry construction or stone veneer over existing structure. Wood-burning or gas conversions. Permit required. Refractory firebrick interior.
Free-standing or built into patio walls. Wood-burning with masonry chimney. Built with freeze-resistant materials.
Simpler than full fireplaces. Round or square stone or block construction. Wood-burning or gas. Can be added to existing patios.
Straight answers from 15 years of building fireplaces across Connecticut. No fluff.
Wide range depending on size, indoor or outdoor, and material choice. A simple outdoor stone fireplace on an existing patio runs lower. A full indoor masonry fireplace with chimney runs higher. We give you a written estimate after the site visit with everything broken out.
Outdoor fireplaces typically finish in 5 to 10 work days. Indoor fireplaces run longer, especially with permits and inspections. Full chimney work can take 2 to 3 weeks.
Indoor fireplaces always need a permit. Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits usually do not require a permit in most CT towns, though some towns regulate fire features near property lines or wooded areas.
Depends on how you want to use the fireplace. Wood-burning gives you the real fire experience. Gas gives you instant on and off with no maintenance between uses. We build both.
Yes, but the project gets complicated. The fireplace needs a footing, the chimney needs to penetrate the roof, and the space needs structural support. We assess feasibility on the site visit.
